Jefferson, Ohio

Jefferson (On the Highway since 1913) Pop: 200

The small community of Jefferson has always been on the designated Lincoln Highway, even though the route entered from three different directions as the LH, U.S. 30, and U.S. 250 over time. It lost its post office over 70 years ago, but

  • The Town & Country Restaurant, once the Log Cabin Restaurant, was built in 1928.  It once had additional small dirt-floored tourist cabins serving LH travelers in its back lot. Note the very old original Greek Revival style building near the crossroads, too.

The town and Country is a place of fine dinning, with a charming setting of split rail interior siding.  Don't be fooled by it's common exterior.

Rumor has it that the Town and Country was a 1920's speak easy.  Patrons were cleared through this door window.  When busted, the Sheriff padlocked the door, and that padlock still hangs near the front door today.
