Ohio Lincoln Highway Plans 241 Mile-Long "Buy-Way" Yard Sale in
August.
Coming in August, you will be able to shop from east to west or vice
versa across Ohio for just about any bargain you can dream of. The
Ohio Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor (OLHHC) is planning a
first-ever yard sale across the state...from Thursday, August 11
through Saturday, August 13.
Executive Director Mike Hocker said, "we know that Route 127
Corridor's 'Longest Yard Sale' has been successful over the years,
creating lots of fun and increased spending along that road, and so
when Forest, Ohio's village administrator, Chuck Brunkhart proposed
this idea, many of the CVBs and chambers along the Lincoln Highway
Historic Byway got enthusiastic about having our own "Buy-Way"
corridor."
“We plan to organize for Ohio this year, but it is only natural to
extend it across the eleven Lincoln Highway states next year for the
first Transcontinental Yard Sale...3,390 miles across the U.S.!”
Martha Starkey, President of the OLHHC and Wayne County Convention &
Visitors Bureau Director commented, "The beauty in doing this is the
win-win situation created for many smaller communities along the way
who get lots of traffic at local restaurants and other retailers. Any
landowners along the road may join in, and others may arrange
with local organizations to sell along the road on August 11, 12 and
13! They will benefit from our promotions . (An ad is already slated
for OHIO MAGAZINE.) This activity brings loads of tourists,
bargain-hunters and collectors from all over, and gives a boost to the
local economy.”
Communities along all alignments of the highway's history include East
Liverpool, Lisbon, Hanoverton, Kensington, East Rochester, Minerva,
Robertsville, East Canton and Canton, Massillon, East Greenville,
Dalton, Riceland, Wooster, Jefferson, Reedsburg, New Pittsburg,
Rowsburg, Reedsburg, Jeromesville, Hayesville, Ashland, Mifflin,
Mansfield, Ontario, Crestline, Galion, Leesville, Bucyrus, Oceola,
Nevada, Upper Sandusky, Forest, Dunkirk, Williamstown, Dola, Ada,
Beaverdam, Cairo, Lima, Elida, Gomer, Delphos, Van Wert and Convoy.
“We also plan to have brochures available explaining the historic
significance of the Lincoln Highway, and show shoppers our smaller
towns along the way. We hope they will want to come back and do other
things later,” Starkey said.
Any organizations or churches located along the road that are
interested in fundraising can set up parking lot rental spaces, and
are encouraged to offer snacks and other foods. The OLHHC plans to
offer signature “Buy-Way” items for sale, Yard Sale kits, and provide
table banners. If you are interested call the OLHHC at 419-468-6773.
