Ashland Population: 21,200. (On the Highway 1913 - 1928) Ashland County Seat.

The City of Ashland was founded in 1815. Ashland was chosen as the county seat over Jeromesville. Ashland County was formed from parts of Richland, Wayne, Huron and Lorain counties. It was named after Ashland Kentucky, home of the Whig candidate for President, Henry Clay. Ashland College (now Ashland University) was chartered in 1878.

There are two routes of the Lincoln Highway in Ashland County. - The pre-1928 route enters from Wayne County on US 250 and enters Rowsburg and the city of Ashland. In Ashland it continued westward on US 42 into Mansfield. - The 1928 route enters the county on Old Lincoln Way/U.S. 30-A, from Wayne County and travels through Jeromesville, Hayesville and Mifflin. Leaving Mifflin, follow routes 603 and 430 on to Richland County.
